I began this page as one much different for the Saturday Scraplift #50 this week. Then I decided I loved the papers so much that I would use this heritage photograph and include a bit of our family history.

This is photograph of my great aunt. I never knew her; of course . . . but, the story is so sad that I want our family to remember her. I did know my great aunt Callie. She married late in life . . . long after the Beavers’ children were grown up and no longer needed her. Her niece; my Aunt Velma, who was born in 1914 is her namesake. This photograph was taken only a few months before her illness and death.

Journaling: Velma Sherrill Beavers was the older sister of my grandmother Mary Jane. She was born on November 11, 1888 and died in the terrible influenza pandemic in 1918 that would eventually take the lives of 600,000 Americans. She died on December 17, 1918 and left four small children and her husband Charles. Her younger sister, Callie moved in with the family to help care for them.
