Journaling: The kids and I are looking at my grandmother's photo album. My mom has been through it, providing some additional information, labeling some of the people, speculating as to where the pictures are taken, what occasions are being documented. But so much is left to our imagination: Is Russell's boxing part of army training? What's with the giant liquor bottle? Even captioned pictures raise questions: Why note that this was taken "just after dinner"? And who are those people with Russell, anyway? Why did Helen and Russell take that 6-month trip to France at the beginning of the Great Depression? What was Stephen Crocheron (Helen's father) really like with his grandson Bruce? What was the army like for Russell? We make up stories (That kid is about to vomit his dinner), and laugh, but I'm thinking: I want to do better.
