• Turning and Flipping Templates in Photoshop and PSE

This week, we are continuing a series of tips on getting more from layered templates. Todayís tip shows you how to change the look of a template simply by turning or flipping it. This is a great way to stretch your scrapbooking budget and give album pages a cohesive look. Flipping your templates gives them a fresh look without sacrificing the style or elements.

Open a template in Photoshop or Elements and make a copy of it so you donít accidentally overwrite the original. In Photoshop, choose Image > Duplicate. In Elements, choose File > Duplicate. Give the copy a new name and click OK.

Turn the template by choosing Image > Rotate in Elements or Image > Rotate Canvas or Image > Image Rotation in Photoshop. From the flyout menu, you can choose to rotate the template 90 degrees in either direction or flip it upside down by rotating it 180 degrees.

In Elements, use the box at the top to flip the whole template. The middle box flips one layer.

The rotate command also gives you the ability to flip the entire canvas horizontally if you like. This is a great way to use a template to create a double page spread. Use the original template for one side and the flipped template for the other side.

Once you flip the template, youíll need to flip the text layers back to make them readable.

In Elements, choose Flip Layer Horizontal from the Rotate Command on the Menu bar.

In Photoshop, choose Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal.

Put a twist on your templates to give them a new look and double your scrapbook dollars.
