• Digitally Gluing Paper to Text in Photoshop and PSE

This week’s tip is the third in this series on digital techniques with text in Photoshop and Elements. This week you’ll discover another way to use digital papers with the Type tool.

Begin by opening a new document in Photoshop or Elements.
    Get the Horizontal Type tool.
Choose a font name and style in the Options Bar across the top of the editing window. Choose a large font size, then click on the new document.
    Type a word.

Next, open a digital paper of your choice.
Use the Move tool to drag the paper onto the new document.
Position the paper layer one space above the text layer in the Layers panel.

Move the cursor between the paper layer and the text layer, then Alt click (Mac: Opt click) to create a clipping mask. This will cause the paper layer to move to the right with a downward arrow.
On your document, you’ll note that the paper has taken on the shape of the text.

Give the text layer a small drop shadow using the method of your choice. For the sample, Katie Pertiet’s drop shadow action was used.

Thanks for watching and be sure to check back next week for another Photoshop or Elements Tip of the Week.
