Saturday Scraplift: Be Bold in Your Design

I love it when a strong design leaps out at me from the gallery of talented scrappers that we have here at Designer Digitals. That’s exactly what happened when I saw the page Elisabeth (lego) did for the last 30MM – does that make me prejudiced? She cleverly used two photos to show front and back images of her daughter’s Halloween costume and then showcased them on a well-designed page, using bat shapes and patterned paper squares to drawn the viewer’s eye straight to her photos. I immediately thought it would make a great page for the Saturday Scraplift, and two of my teammates agreed. Here’s how Elisabeth’s page inspired us.

Elisabeth’s page:

Liz (lizziet5) pulled the delicate colors for her page from the beautiful photo of her daughter – a no-fail scrapping technique. I love the perfectly chosen accents on her page: the fading overlay, the trio of epoxies, and the contrasting stitching. It’s a signature Liz page!

Julie (MaggieMae) used a photo of her granddaughter performing during a rain storm. She capitalized on the purple effect created by the rain on the lights and turned it into a strength on her gorgeous purple page. Katie’s new ARToption Mini Mix No. 03 was the perfect choice.

I rotated Elisabeth’s design to accommodate my landscape-oriented photo. I also liked how Elisabeth’s bat overlay was in keeping with her theme, so I created my own background “overlay” by gathering a variety of question marks and reducing their opacity.

I know Elisabeth’s page is going to inspire some wonderful designs and can’t wait to see where it takes you. Remember to post your page in the Saturday Scraplift Challenge gallery as well as in the November Participation Sign-in Thread in the forum. Happy scrapping!
