Hello and welcome to 2020! I’ve kind of been all over the place about this month’s challenge. So, this month’s challenge is a mix of using layer masks, adding texture and color.
On this page, I started with the background paper, brought in the mask and clipped my photo to it. I then duplicated the mask, put it under the first mask and added a texture from the filters gallery. By changing that layer to Linear Light, it allowed the texture to show through the mask above it. It’s very faint, but is a fun way to add a little depth to the page.
I began this page with the same mask, and texture procedure. To add a pop of color to the snow on the right, I added the white touch up paint brush, included in the freebie pack, and changed the blend mode to Color Dodge.
This page began the same way, but I did not add the texture layer. I did, however add a color lookup adjustment layer above the background paper and played with it until I found the color I wanted. If you have Photoshop CS6 you can find it in the Adjustments panel. You can find a tutorial here. If you don’t have it, you can get the same look by adding a colored paper above the background paper, and playing with Blend Modes until you like it.
When creating your pages, you can use all or some of the products Katie has generously provided in the freebie pack. Remember to post them in the Mask Appeal Challenge Gallery and link up your page in the January Challenge Participation Thread, for proper credit.
This post was quite lengthy, so I did not add credits. I have added them to my posts in the Gallery if you are interested. Enjoy!
