itunes Scrapbook Cover Challenge – Going Retro

Hi, Sharon here with this month’s itunes challenge! We’re going a little bit retro this time around with this 1958 John Coltrane Cover.

I was looking for a simple design to use in scrapping a little photo I took at Bush School the other day – and this one was perfect! I love the monochrome look and the split title and journaling. My photo was already monochrome and so I copied the design exactly and I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out!

I chose papers from Katie’s Christmas Joy Scrapbooking Collection, and I used her Stamped Alphabet No. 05. Katie has very generously put together a freebie pack for this challenge which includes the alpha and the cream Christmas Joy solid paper!

So . . . download the freebie here, and see what you can come up with. Do you have a photo that’s already monochrome, like mine? Or perhaps one that will work with a coloured filter like the original? Or will you decide not to go monochrome at all, but look for a really good photo/coloured paper match?

I decided to have another go myself, and found it quite tricky to find a photo that could be summed up in a compound word or in two words that would work as a split title. I found one and used a blue filter like the album cover. I like the added interest of a slight pattern or texture in the coloured block.

I hope this deceptively simple design will get you scrapping this week. And I hope you will share your creation with us in the itunes Challenge Gallery. Dont forget to add your 100% Designer Digital product creation to the July Participation thread so that it will count toward your savings in the rewards program.
