When
you are working with templates, it’s easy to accidentally overwrite
the original template by saving your changes with the same file name.
This can permanently alter your purchased template. To avoid this,
it’s a good habit to duplicate the template before you begin adding
photos to it.
Start
a good habit this new year. Resolve to take these steps each time
you open a template:
In
Photoshop Elements,
open a template by selecting File
> Open
and browsing your computer to locate the template file. Immediately
duplicate the template by selecting File
> Duplicate. PSE
names the duplicate your file name + copy. You can leave the default
new name or type in a new file name.
Check
to make sure that the box labeled “Flatten Layers in New File” is
NOT checked and click OK.
In
Photoshop,
open a template by selecting File
> Open
and browsing your computer to locate the template file. Immediately
duplicate the template by selecting Image
> Duplicate.
Photoshop names the duplicate your file name + copy. You can leave
the default new name or type in a new file name.
Make
sure that the box labeled “Duplicate Merge Layers Only” is NOT
checked and click OK.
