You can save yourself a little time by adding advanced options at the same time that you create a new layer. Options like layer naming, color, or setting the previous layer as a clipping mask are available to you by pressing the Alt key (Mac: Opt key) as you click the Create a New Layer icon in the Layers Panel.

Instead of creating the layer and then renaming it or clipping it to a mask in another step, you can get it all done at once with this quick tip.
