Here’s a fun way to use patterned paper differently in Photoshop and Elements.

Begin by opening a new document in Photoshop or Elements.

Open a piece of patterned paper.

Get the Move tool and drag the patterned paper onto your document.

Press Ctrl T (Mac: Cmd T) to get the Transform controls and use the corner handles to make your paper a little smaller than your background.

Add a Drop Shadow Layer Style to the patterned paper.

Get the Magic Wand tool and uncheck Contiguous in the Options Bar.

Click on an element of your paper.

Now you’ll see marching ants surrounding everything on the paper that is the same color.

Press Backspace or Delete on your keyboard to delete the selection.

Pressing Ctrl D (Mac: Cmd D) will remove the selection.

Now your paper looks like Swiss cheese (but cuter!)
