Trendy Squares with 2 Rounded and 2 Squared Corners in Photoshop and PSE
Flipping through a magazine the other day, I noticed
a trendy design shape on a number of pages. The shape is a square or rectangle
with two or three rounded corners. The remaining corner retains a sharp point.
I thought this would be a fun shape to make in our series of video tipson working with shapes
for digital projects.
To make this trendy shape, begin by opening a new document in Photoshop or Elements. Set the Foreground color to a color that contrasts with your background.
Get the Rounded Rectangle tool and make your choices in the Options bar. Select the Create a New Shape Layer icon. In the full version of Photoshop, also select the Shape Layers icon. Set the feather to 200 pixels. Click and drag out a rounded rectangle.
Ctrl click (Mac: Cmd click) the Create a new layer icon in the Layers panel to create a new layer underneath the rounded rectangle.
Get the Rectangle Tool and keeping the same settings in the Options bar, draw out a rectangle that is smaller than your rounded rectangle.
Get the Zoom tool and draw out a box to zoom in closer to your rectangles.
Get the Move tool and drag the rectangle to one of the corners so that it lines up with two sides of the rounded rectangle and creates a squared corner.
Merge the three shape layers by Ctrl clicking (Mac: Cmd clicking) the three shape layers to select them. Press Ctrl E (Mac: Cmd E) on your keyboard to merge the three layers.
Use the shape as a clipping mask with photos or digital papers on your next project and post it in the Idea Gallery. This is a great way to use the digital kits you purchase.
Be sure to check back next week for the next in our series of video tip.
