When I’m working on a project or editing my photos in Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, I often have a number of images open at once.

When I am ready to move onto a new project, there are several ways for me to close the files. There’s not a right way or a wrong way to do this – like most things Photoshop, it’s a matter of personal choice and what seems most comfortable for your working style.

One way to close the files is to click the X at the top right corner of each open document one by one. This can be time consuming if you have a large set of photos open.

Another way to close all of the open files is to close out of Photoshop and reopen. Depending on the speed of your computer and the number of personal settings, this can take more time than you are willing to devote to the task.

A faster way to close all of the files is to select File > Close All or use the keyboard shortcut: Alt + Ctrl + W (Mac: Opt + Cmd + W).

The final method is to hold the Shift key as you click on the X at the top right corner of the open file on top of the stack. This quickly closes all of the open files in sequence.
