Photoshop or Elements Tip of the Week:

Creating a New Layer

Is it spring where you live? One of my favorite things about this time of year is watching the new plants peek their little heads out of the ground - the promise of a new layer of growth.

As you are building a document in Photoshop and PSE, you often need to create a new layer, too. With just a few keystrokes or clicks, you can give yourself a fresh, new layer to work with. With a document open, you can create a new transparent layer using one of these methods:

  1. From the Menu Bar, select Layer > New > Layer.
  2. Click once on the Create a New Layer icon in the Layers Palette. This creates a new transparent layer above the currently selected layer.
  3. Press Ctrl + Shift + N (Mac: Cmd + Shift + N) on your keyboard. Like Method 2, this creates a new transparent layer above the layer that is currently selected.

Have a great week and we'll see you at DesignerDigitals!
