Journaling: I won't put it all, but basically: this is Nyaru, an Orang Utan born in Perth Zoo in Oct 2007. He is very safe here. No one wants to take his home away. No one wants to hurt him. Everyone loves him. If he was born in his native Islands of Sumatra or Borneo his life would be so different. For it is here that billions of rainforest is being cleared every year to make way for palm oil plantations. The cleared hardwood trees are sold for millions of dollars and palm trees planted in their place. Palm Oil is the most profitable crop in the world. It is used as a base for cosmetics, creams, health foods and makes Crude Oil. But the rainforest is the orang utan's home, breeding ground, feeding place and whole life. Without it, they will not survive. The palms are then poisoned after about 30 years and the land left to die. There are no nutrients left. The only thing that will grow there is grass. This leaves it open for bushfires, flooding, drought and landslides. The Orang Utan is critically endangered as are many other rainforest dwellers. They cannot survive without the rainforest. They are 97% similar to humans. The other animal similar to us is the Gorilla. They live in African rainforests of Uganda, Zaire, Rwanda and The Congo. Now, the palm oil investors are looking at destroying the African rainforests to make way for palm oil plantations there. Man already kills Gorillas in cold blood. This will secure their fate. Whatever will they destroy next? Us? Well they have already started as by destroying the rainforests they have destroyed Earth's weather pattrens, resulting in some extreme weather we have never seen before. What gives Man the right to destroy the planet? What gives Man the right to
harm and wipe out wildlife?
