Back in 1968 I sang with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. I was young and pretty and talented. Placido Domingo was the leading tenor in "Manon Lescaut" in which there is an aria called "La Bionda e bruna" (The blonde and the brunette. I was chosen as The Blonde.) As Placido walked me around the stage singing, we also chatted and became instant friends. He visited my parent's tiny little house and serenaded them on their out-of-tune piano. We also sang a duet at a famous nightclub after which he arranged an audition at the NYC opera. I got the job and moved to HYC. I was 22 and he was 27. Placido and I stayed very close for many years and it is only recently that we have lost touch. But he forever be my dear friend.
