I am late to respond to the story challenge but I have been kicking this one around for awhile.

Journaling: The characters from Mother Goose peopled our childhood. First my grandfather read them to us and then later I “read” them to my sister.

Bow, wow, wow
Whose dog art thou?

Little Jack Jingle,
He used to live single;

Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake,
Baker's man!

Saw ye aught of my love a-coming from the market?
A peck of meal upon her back,
A babby in her basket;
Saw ye aught of my love a-coming from the market?

Goosey, goosey, gander,
Whither dost thou wander?
Upstairs and downstairs
And in my lady's chamber.

And then there was our all time favorite. We competed to see just who would get to be this little girl, and sit on our grandfather's lap while he read:

There was a little girl who had a little curl
Right in the middle of her forehead;
And when she was good she was very, very good,
And when she was bad she was horrid.
