Just Linens Paper Pack No. 57: Broyden

It all began just before Hayley left. She persuaded me to get a Blackberry so we could BBM one another without it costing us a cent. I went with it. I figured it would be good to be in contact with her at no cost. It worked. Whether it was a few quick words between us or a more lengthy ‘bring us up to date with what’s happening’ message, I felt close to her. A few months after she’d left when things had settled down and I knew she was in her happy place, I began to toy with the idea of getting an iPhone. Nothing serious, I mean. I’d just been thinking about it. That was as far as I’d got. But while I was out one day, a telephone conversation went a bit like this:
Vincent: Mom’s thinking of getting an iPhone.
Hayley: (huffing & pfft-ing) Huh? What does she want to do that for?! Jodie and Stuart only have one so they can message ONE another for free! Mom would use hardly any of the functions on an iPhone! (More huffing and pfft-ing)
Vincent: Well, she’s ONLY thinking about it!
As usual (and for a bit of fun), Vincent prompted me to mention the iPhone to Hayley when we next spoke. I did, of course. And got the same wonderful response complete with all the huffing & pfft-ing. LOVE how this child reacts to things sometimes. Needless to say, I shelved the idea of an iPhone. But she raised the bar though when she got an iPad.
Hayley: Get an iPad Mom! We can FaceTime then!
At that point, an iPad was definitely not on our radar. But then there was another call. The one where Hayley & I reacted in the same way. The tears that led Vincent to splash out and buy me an iPad so he didn’t have a huge phone bill. You get the gist. So I had a new baby in the house. It was love at first sight. Even the packaging had me at the first seal. It was SO superior. Me and my iPad, we do everything together. Including FaceTime. It goes everywhere with me. I do everything on it and we’re inseparable. I’d hate to be without it now. A couple of months passed until Hayley took this whole Apple thing to a completely new level when, to my surprise, she posted a picture of her very own iPhone! The little so-and-so! My Blackberry didn’t stand a chance when it was due for an upgrade. I made a smart move, I got down with the kids and I picked up an iPhone. I’m not disappointed. Not that I thought I would be, of course. I’m already of the opinion that anything else will never quite match it. OK, so they’ve all got S’s and I got a C. But I’ve got to let them think they’re still one step ahead of me on our Apple journey, right? Right. Now I just need to work on the Mac. Oh yeah.

Thanks for looking!
