Janet has a wonderful All About Me prompt on the blog. I went with a topic that my husband and I were just discussing the other day.
When I walked into the house for the first time I knew it was the one. There
was lots of room in this house. The boys would have their own rooms and there was a huge basement. I had never lived in a house where there were stairs, much less a basement and I loved it. (Plus, everything was oak and I loved the warm feel of it all). Not long after we moved in I learned something about myself; I need windows and open spaces. I spent very little time down stairs and I know it’s because it is half underground with small windows. I tried to have a sewing room upstairs after Mark switched bedrooms and found that I never wanted to go up there and sew and would end up bring my machine down to the kitchen table. So, we decided to add a little more space. We added only a little more than the length of a couch out into the backyard from the kitchen doors and the small room that shared a wall with the kitchen. This opened the whole place right up. My main goal was light so the whole south side is windows. This was going to be my Christmas tree window (there was not a single large window for a tree anywhere else in the house). I also added a gas fireplace as I hated the log burning stove downstairs.
I now spend all my time in the addition. I can sit and stitch while I watch tv online. I can sit in front of the fireplace and look at the Christmas tree. I can read my kindle or listen to audio books. I even do yoga in this room (once the coffee table is out of the way). This is where I do my bird watching. This is where I use to watch for Mark to come and go from school. I watch kids build snowmen and play soccer out my windows and I see some wonderful sunsets silohetting a favorite tree that changes with the seasons. The addition makes my house perfect. I'm so glad I did it.
