Thanksgiving Dinner 1976
Admittedly, my mind works in weird ways. When I saw the templates chosen for this mash-up, all I could see was turkey feathers! I had just come across a photo taken on the first Thanksgiving that I cooked, so that’s where this challenge lead me.
Journaling ( I seem to be stuck in older photos and memories lately!) :
In 1976, we put an addition on our Westfield house. It was 21 feet by 24 feet and included a family room and a dining room. They were open with just a step and railing in between. Since we now had this big area for entertaining, we decided to host Thanksgiving for both of our families. It was my very first time cooking thanksgiving dinner and it was for eleven people, including my mother and my mother-in-law! I think I did a pretty good job with the dinner. I made my mother’s traditional cornbread dressing and baked four pumpkin pies. Mother brought her Waldorf salad and stuffed celery. Grandma Weber brought my favorite perfection salad with fruit and marshmallows. Debbie made “corn pone” and we teased her about it mercilessly! While I took the food out of the oven, my mother grabbed the camera to record my first Thanksgiving dinner. I’m so glad she did! What a proud and memorable event this was for me.
