Still playing with painting/sketching. My grandmother, seen here at age 16, was a very complicated person - so outwardly sure of herself and yet, so damaged by her past.
Journaling: Like the butterfly, you emerged from your cocoon at age sixteen presenting a brave, beautiful face to the world. You walked away from your old life without a backward glance, or so at least you would have had us believe. On the surface, the frightened orphan was no more. You spread your wings and took flight into your new life. But at what cost? One has to wonder, does the butterfly who entrances us with her beauty carry - like you - the memory of the scared caterpillar deep inside?
