This mask was perfect for what I wanted to express. Whenever I visit battle sites I think about the freedoms we have, and I ponder the lives lost. When we visited this site, we were the only ones there, it was late in the afternoon, and although the beauty of the site would impress most, I was overcome by a somber mood-best expressed by the photo behind the mask-but even more impressive with the masked cannon in the fore front. I have a few pages I will do for our visit that will express these thoughts, but this one will stay as is- Ninety Six Historic Site is somewhere near the center of South Carolina and it was established by the British in 1781 to support the Loyalists- I was surprised to learn that a Loyalist fort existed here.
