Journaling: Each year, on the anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States, September 11, in our local historic cemetery, our town displays a Field of Flags. The flags represent the victims of the horrible attack that destroyed the New York Twin Towers, workers at the Pentagon and passengers and crew of the flight that crashed near Shanksville, PA. Almost 3,000 people perished in the attack. The flags are purchased by local citizens and businesses. They are positioned in regimental order by many, many volunteers. The number of flags is staggering. As you walk along the rows, the loss of life is palatable. Yet the sense of patriotism and love for our country is just as strong. The experience is one you will never forget.
