Thursday and Friday of this week, the kids are out of school for parent teacher conferences, so we are planning a trip to the pumpkin patch, which led me to re-visit some of our trips to pumpkin patches from past years.
Before I moved to Kansas, the kids used to come visit me every fall and part of that tradition involved a visit to "Vala's Pumpkin Patch", easily the best in a five state region if you ask us! We vowed we'd still go back even once I was down here, but it never seems to work out, since it would require an overnight stay to really enjoy it to the fullest, it is huge!
So I wanted to tell the story of the last time we went and how we seldom realize at the time that will be our last.
While I had a bunch of photos from that day, I only needed one to tell my story and Kayleigh's template was perfect! Why mess with perfection, right? Besides, I can't layer like she does!

Journaling: Where does the time go sweet boy? It seems like only yesterday when you and Mom came to visit me in Omaha for our last annual trek to Vala's. I remember Dad and Chase didn't come that year because Dad had been sick. It had been raining, so it was colder and muddier for our visit than I ever remember, but of course it didn't matter to you. By the following year, I'd moved to Kansas and despite our vow to uphold our annual tradition of a fall visit to Vala's, we have never made it back. It's kind of sad really that we seldom realize at the time that something will be our last. That's why I am so grateful that I do what I do...taking photos and preserving our memories for the future. Love, Mimi
