Journalling (at the risk of you thinking my husband is loopy!!):

Mike has had a recurring "experience" ... nightmare if you will, since he was about 7 years old, not long after he moved to Australia.

He will be asleep in bed and awaken with a start when he feels a presence in the room. He says it will be enough to jolt him into full consciousness, the hairs on the back of his neck prickle and he sees a figure cloaked in a Monk's robe standing at the foot of the bed looking at him.

Mike says he can't move his arms or his legs, he can't speak or call out, he is completely paralysed. Only his eyes can move, wide eyed with fear. Although he says he doesn't know that he'd call it a sense of fear, perhaps a sense of helplessness of being in a frozen like situation.

The Monk, or figure in the robe, never says anything. He just stands there. Mike is sure it is a he. And he will disappear when Mike closes his eyes. Could it be a protector?

He says he has had this "visitor" around 8 or 9 times over the years. He can't pin it down to a particular stressful period in his life, there seems to be no nexus to when this happens to him.

But for some reason the "visitor" has not followed him here to Mortlake. The visits have stopped. It's one of those strange mysteries. Is he really asleep and has dreamt the whole thing? Is it imagination gone wild? Or is he really getting a visitor from an unknown entity? All he knows is that it feels completely real, it chills him to the bone and has been recurring over the past 30 years.

DREAM DEFINITION : The black hooded figure represents a lack of identity more than anything else. The monk's hooded robe prevents the dreamer from knowing what the figure signifies. So this dream expresses the dreamer's anxiety about not knowing what lies in his/her immediate future.
