My grandsons and I go on "Date Night" once a year. It has become a tradition that started quite by accident 7 years ago when Charlie (the oldest) was only 3.
Each year I take one of the boys alone to a concert, a play or special event. It is just the 2 of us for the evening...with dinner first & dessert afterwards.
It is quality time for each of them with their "Grandy" and they look forward to it as much as I do. (Their friends all ask if I can do it with them too.)
One year, Charlie & I were on our way to "The City" (Chicago) to see "The Blue Man Group. Charlie was 8 & sitting in his carseat behind me. We had only been on the road for 5 or 6 minutes & had not even stopped yet for dinner. We were chatting the way we always do when we're together. All of a sudden he burst out with, "Grandy, I'm already having a really good time!"
My heart melted on the spot.
