Yesterday our church celebrated its quasquicentennial (125 years), otherwise known as the Sasquatch Centennial by one of our associate pastors. I just had to document the day.

Journaling: First Baptist Church Winter Garden celebrated its quasquicentennial on August 25 -- founded as a church 125 years ago in 1888. During the service, Pastor Tim reviewed the history of the nine people who covenanted together to establish a church in Ocoee. Eight years later, J.L. Dillard encouraged the congregation to move to Winter Garden, donating property and $250 to the group. Our present sanctuary was completed in 1923 at the cost of $160,000. Following the service, we all gathered in the gymnasium for a family-style meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, and biscuits. Quite a few folks, including Pastor Tim and Carol, dressed in costumes from yesteryear, and we enjoyed bluegrass music and a trivia contest about the church’s history. There was a pie-eating contest as well as tables full of every dessert imaginable. I think those nine charter members would be proud of what has God has made of their original endeavor. 08.25.13
