I came across this photo of my Mama while looking to see what pictures I might be able to use with the new Almost Spring Kit and thought a tribute page would be a great way to kick off using this beautiful kit.
When I was a young child, I was constantly concerned about being liked and having lots of friends, however, I was extremely shy and had a difficult time making friends because they though I was stand-offish. This was very hard for a young child to understand, so my mom had me focus on other things, instead. She taught me to focus on my inside beauty and to appreciate my natural talents; never to compare myself against others. As you can imagine, this was a concept not easily comprehended or accepted. I spent a whole lot of my young life fighting this idea, and truth be told I still fight this theory today. But there is one thing she said to me that I have never forgotten. She said, ”When you find your inner beauty it will show itself on the outside and people will naturally gravitate toward you because you’ll be a more self-assured, confident human being. People like to be around those type of people.” Now a mother myself, I understand the grief experienced when your small, sweet and innocent child starts questioning their own outer beauty, basing their conclusions on another child’s angry comments. I am thankful that my mother found a way to redirect my inner fears and help me learn how to cope with the pain. My hope is that I can do the same for my daughter and her self confidence.
