Journaling:
Dear Emily, There are not many times in my life that I can remember where I was actually speechless - literally unable to talk. But tonight was one of them. Your first high school dance and your first time dressing up in a party dress and heels. So many emotions ran through my head when you came down the stairs ready to go - “Oh my god, how did she become this old?!”, “Her dress is absolutely perfect!”, “How is it possible that Emily is even in high school?”, “She is sooooooo beautiful!!!”, “Don’t cry, don’t cry, don’t make too much of a fuss”, “But she is so beautiful that I can’t even stand it” - and a whole lot more that really all came down to this - my baby has grown up and you are absolutely stunning and smart and funny and incredibly kind and have so much compassion and such a big heart and I feel like my own heart is going to explode out of my chest with how beautiful you are (inside and out) and how proud I am of you. And I knew I couldn’t say all that and make too much of a fuss over you when you were a wee bit nervous and excited and unsure all at the same time. And we were running a few minutes late, too, so we didn’t take more than a couple of photographs so that you could get to the restaurant on time to meet your friends. But that’s what I was thinking and I wanted you to know. There is not a mother in this world who loves a daughter more than I love you and your beauty and charisma and heart make me speechless.
