52 Themes -- First (l)
I hope I haven't taken on more than I can handle. It has taken me forever to finish this spread -- lots of journaling and so many choices to make, but I just love using all the cool goodies. For this part 365 / part Project Life album, I'm exploring a different theme each week. This is the kind of album I think I will love when it's finished, but it's going to be a lot of work.
Journaling: FIRST [from the Anglo Saxon fyrst from fore, before] - as an adjective: advanced before or further than any other in progression; foremost in place; preceding all others in numbers or a progressive series; preceding all others in the order of time; preceding all others in rank, dignity, or excellence; principal as a noun: that which precedes all else; the beginning; the one before the second; any person, thing, class, place, etc. that is first
This is Sky Bowl, the site of our first date back in June 1968. Don and I met the summer after my sophomore year in college when he and his mother visited our church. He impressed me on that first date by bowling over 200 and by wearing a Gant shirt and tassel loafers. We’ve laughed so many times since then about the fact that he’d borrowed the clothes from his brother. But he’s still a better bowler than I am.
Eat a live toad the first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day. – Unknown
First Watch -- a yummy place to have breakfast or lunch. Karen introduced me to it; it’s probably a good thing it’s not closer to my house, or I’d be there all the time. Their website says they think the first watch is the best shift of the day since they’re up at the crack of dawn chopping and slicing. Methinks a bit more research is needed: the first watch in the Royal Navy system is from 8:00 PM to midnight. Gotta love the irony right along with the food!
FSU played its first game of 2013 on the first day of the first month: the Orange Bowl against Northern Illinois. There were lots of firsts in the game: quite a few first and 10s; the first touchdown of the year, scored by Lonnie Pryor in the first quarter; the side note that this year we were 8-1 when we scored first in the game; and finally, the first win of the year. Here’s hoping it will be the first of MANY wins this year.
I’m a first born, and here’s my first born with his first born. Poor Katie -- she doesn’t stand a chance: she’s a third generation first born. I used to teach a unit in Gifted Studies on birth order, sort of a pop psychology piece, but I think there may really be something to it. I know I certainly exhibit a number of the characteristics, and so do Marc and Katie. We tend to be rule followers, keepers of the family flame, traditionalists. We like to be in charge. That probably explains why most of our presidents have been first borns or first born sons. As a rule, we’re confident, determined, and usually successful. Katie for president!
