Greetings, DD'ers and Happy Boxing Day! Okay, we don't really celebrate that holiday here in the States. I suppose where I live today would be more accurately named "Happy Gift Return and Post-Christmas Sales Day!" Smile Anyone braving the lines at the stores today? Not me! This is the first day in many, many weeks that I don't have to do, well, anything, so I'm not. How much fun is that?!? It's ~11:00 a.m. PST and I am still in my jammies, a cup of hot mulled apple cider next to me, the rain pouring buckets outside.

So, the story behind this page...I guess for the most part it speaks for itself. There is this tremendous build-up to Christmas Day--the cards and the presents and the shopping and the music and the tree and the...well, you get the idea. Over the years I've tried to simplify my Christmas preparations so as not to stress too much, but even with simplifying I still take the whole month between Thanksgiving and Christmas to get ready. However, at 12:01 a.m. on December 26th it is as though someone throws a switch and Christmas (okay, the commercial aspect of it) comes to an abrupt and screeching halt. Everything just...stops. All of the radio stations that were playing 24-hour Christmas music now go back to their regular broadcasts. Stores take down their Christmas displays and replace them with Valentine's Day stuff. My neighbors have begun taking down their holiday lights, and one of my sisters has already put away all of her Christmas decorations, including her tree. It is only December 26th but it is as though Christmas never happened! Doesn't it seem like we should be able to say good-bye to Christmas in a more gradual way? Oh well, if I keep Christmas in my heart then I never have to say good-bye to it, right? Right? Okay, New Year's resolution--I'll work on that!

In the meantime I have a couple of days off work, so I hope to be spending a bit more time here. Hope those that celebrated had a very Merry Christmas, and hope everyone has a happy and prosperous New Year.
