Journaling: We tell the story the same way everyday, all through the Christmas season, as we place the pieces onto our advent calendar. It brings us great joy to know that it is not just a fairy tale, but our source of life and hope.....

A long time ago--about 2000 years--in the little town of Bethlehem, there stood a stable. In that stable, there was a manger--the trough where the animals get their food and water. On one special night, in that stable was a woman named Mary, and she was about to have a baby. There with Mary were her fiance, Joseph, and the animals. Out in the fields nearby, there were shepherds keeping watch over their flocks. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and they were terrified! But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid! I’m here to bring you good news of great joy for all people. Today in the town of David (that’s another way of saying Bethlehem), a savior has been born. He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in clothes, lying in a manger.” Suddenly, a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will to men.” Way off in the east, there were wise men who studied the sky. And one night, they saw a new star. They knew it marked the place where a king had been born. They traveled far, probably on their camels, following the star, to worship the king. They brought gifts such as gold, frankincense, and myrrh to offer to Jesus.
