day 12: december daily 2012
Christmas books are a big part of the weeks before and after Christmas Day. I love to read them to relax during the busy days . . . and I love the gentle sentimentality of some and the interesting quirkiness of others.
Journaling: I will admit that I sometimes will read a Christmas book in July . . . or perhaps in the merry month of March, but for the most part I save this luxury for the week after Thanksgiving through New Years. I am not too particular what I read, for most Christmas books are sweet, sentimental and sappy . . . sort of an assemblage of wintertime beach books! Just what I am looking during the busy and often hectic times before Christmas. They take me away from planning and shopping and making my multitudes of lists!
This year it seems that I haven’t read as many as usual . . . I haven’t checked out any of the new Christmas released this year, but have pulled out some old ones that have turned out to be new again. I had forgotten the plots. I don’t buy many books anymore; now that our children are grown I find that I have time to spend time at the Library. Right now I’m reading a Christmas mystery . . . just finished The Christmas Quilt, and one of Debbie Macomber’s Christmas books, A Christmas Gift and have Kate Jacobs Knit the Season up next. I will probably top them off with a Mary Higgins Clark Christmas book . . . don’t know which one yet . . . I’ve read them all, but probably will have forgotten the plots until I reach the mid-point!
I read when I eat my breakfast and also my lunch. And, of course don’t we all read in bed in the evening for a little while? I love to read to our grandchildren and have a stack of children’s Christmas books as tall as a table! Our youngest little one loves the old Little Golden books that belonged to me sixty something years ago. I still love them too . . . sweet memories of old.
