Adventures in cake decorating. Smile

Journaling: It’s all Caleb’s fault really. He started the fiasco. He was the one who showed Josh the minecraft cake video on youtube. Now there are more than 300 days of the year where showing a video to your brother does not have any lasting consequences. Early May is not one of those times. Josh decided then and there that a minecraft cake would make the perfect birthday cake. Since his birthday was only a few days away, we came up with a plan. We’d let Kroger decorate the cake for his midweek birthday and then Caleb and I would attempt the minecraft cake on Saturday. Plan was accepted. (Yes, Caleb and I. It’s important to learn that actions can have repercussions.) On Saturday, we baked the cake and frosted it.We had to leave for a few hours but planned to put the fondant on later. When we returned, we discovered that Josh had eaten a huge piece of it. He thought we’d given up. He still wanted us to continue decorating even with the piece cut out. I’d never worked with fondant before. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to have the consistency of brick, but ours did. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed more when making a cake, The two of us trying to get the fondant flattened was quite a challenge. Thanks to Caleb’s muscle work, we eventually came up with a finished product. It was extremely ugly but it tasted good (once you took the fondant off.)
