I am not sure why I started on the scientific names but, in the spirit of Ursus Americanus and Ursus Arctos Horribilis, here is Alces Alces.
Alces Alces (North American Moose or Eurasian Elk) We took a road in the Grand Tetons and while we were not lost, we did not know where we were. It was dusk - that time of day when you don’t know if the shot will come out, but there is enough light that you have to give it a try. The cow moose was very patient with those strange creatures and their three legged black box with the long nose (tripod, camera and telephoto lens). She grazed placidly on water weeds growing in the creek while we went through our gyrations. Just for the record: we got the shot.
