As much as my sister loves bluebonnets, I love chicory. If I could get away with planting it in my flowerbeds, I would. It just sings of summer, and it always blooms at the same time as the Queen Anne's lace, turning the landscape into a blue and white reflection of the blue skies and fluffy white clouds of summer days.

I'm sure most of you have heard of chicory in coffee, but did you know that it's often added to the forage for cattle because it helps prevent intestinal parasites? I don't think that would entice me to take it along on a trip to foreign lands, but it's an interesting reminder that many plants were used for medicines long before pharmaceutical companies came along.
