Journaling: We hadn’t really given it much thought how we would break the news to our families and friends. We had not even told anyone we were trying for a baby in case the doctor was right and it took a long while. So when we fell pregnant with you straight away we were quite surprised! Your Grandparents were the first to know! We stopped by to see Nana and Pa W after getting confirmation from the doctor. They were not home so Mummy called them. Nana said she was still at work and she was worried because we normally would not stop by in the middle of the week. So I told her we were just stopping by to let her know she was going to be a Nana again. There was silence on the other end of the line. Then she said “Stay right there, we’re on our way home!” Nana and Pa were just so excited! That night we called your Grandparents in Western Australia. Nana and Poppy M were first. When Daddy asked Nana M if she was ready to become a Nana, I could hear her screaming down the line from the other side of the room. Your Nana was over the moon as you would be the first Grandchild on Daddy’s side of the family. Next up, Daddy called Grandad and Nana W. Your Grandad had said before he was just not ready to be a Grandad, but as soon as Daddy told him the news he forgot all of that and was just so happy! Over the next couple of weeks we phoned Grandad T and your Aunts and Uncles and everyone was just so happy to hear the news. We left it several weeks longer to let extended family, friends and work colleagues know. One of the most common responses was “I had no idea you were trying!” quickly followed by “Are you going to find out if you are having a boy or girl?” I let my staff know at our weekly meeting and some had already guessed my news when I stopped the diet I had just started! And of course, for everyone else there was the obligatory Facebook post. Very quickly though, the countdown to waiting for Peanut began!
