Journaling: Cody became an AKC tracking dog (TD) when he passed the tracking test put on by the Davis Dog Training Club tracking test at Mather Regional Park in Rancho Cordova, CA.
After being certified to enter a tracking test, I entered the one test that was available. There would be no other tests in California for 2012 so that gave us one chance. The test was on Sunday at 7 a.m. so Cody and I drove to Sacramento Saturday and stayed overnight in a hotel. It was raining all throughout the night. I kept waking up during the night and worried that it would rain during the test. Once the day dawned and the test was about the start, the rain stopped and became an excellent day for tracking. At the test site we drew track number 3. When it came to our time the judge pointed to our start flag. After our usual start routine Cody took off down the tracking at lightening speed. He continued through the whole track at a fast pace, taking five turns. At each corner he would do some searching, then commit to the corner and continue quickly. He was right on the track most of the time. I never had a chance to worry or get nervous. It took seven minutes for him to complete the track and sniff the glove then lay down on it. The judges congratulated us. Many comments were made about his good training and high drive and desire to track. Very nicely done, Cody!
