Photos from a trip we took last month with some friends. When I saw Lynn's templates, I knew they were just what I needed!

Journaling: What a blast it was to travel to Monroeville, AL to see a performance of “To Kill a Mockingbird” by locals in Harper Lee’s own home town. We had Joan to thank for engineering this gathering of fourteen of her closest friends. We got there early the day of the play and hung out at the hotel pool. We went out to a local restaurant for some great Southern cuisine. Then it was on to the courthouse in time to tour the premises before the show. The old town courthouse had been converted into a museum full of historical details about Harper Lee’s life and the story of her famous novel. It served as inspiration for the set when the movie was made, and there are photographs of Harper and Gregory Peck, who came to Monroeville while researching his Academy Award-winning role. The first act of the play was set outside. For the second act, we went indoors into the courtroom and felt like actual spectators in the trial of poor Tom Robinson. Two of the women in the play came up and sat behind us, and one remarked to the other, “I don’t recognize them; they must be from Madison County!” Dennis was actually chosen to be one of the jurors, and played his part very well. The play was extraordinary, and we were so thankful to our friends for setting up such a memorable weekend. May 2011
