I visited a dear friend whom I've known since 7th grade this weekend. She lives where the eye of Hurricane Katrina hit nearly 5 years ago. I was overwhelmed, completely overwhelmed, by the destruction that is still visible. Streets and streets of nothing but steps where homes and buildings used to be; parking lots without businesses, stilts missing the houses they used to support.
I still can't get the images out of my mind.
And now, the oil. Such resilient people. Please spare them this most awful assault...
