As we approached Gibraltar via LaLinea, Spain, Wayne and I joked that the reason Gibraltar wasn’t on any of the road signs in Spain was that the Spaniards are angry that it’s controlled by the British. That’s quite true. Spanish propositions for joint sovereignty have been soundly rejected by Gibraltarians many times, most recently in 2002.



A neutral area beyond the British Royal airstrip, below right, marks the international boundary between Spain and the United Kingdom.



Gibraltar, 2.5 square miles, is a British colony. It has its own flag, currency, and government.
