Christmas Eve morning finally arrived and everybody was SO excited. I knew right from the beginning that it was going to be a magical day. When I came down the stairs that morning, I immediately headed to the sliding glass door to see how much snow we had received. It was still snowing and it was GORGEOUS! When I looked out the window, I saw my mom’s tin filled with Christmas fudge sitting outside the door, just like she had always done. When I looked up, I saw a cardinal sitting on the bird feeder right above the fudge. I immediately started crying. It was my mom’s very favorite bird. It was the mascot to our school where she volunteered relentlessly, she had them throughout her home and we even had them put two cardinals on her gravestone 16 years ago. That one cardinal that stuck out like a sore thumb against the white of winter took my breath away. She was there to celebrate the miraculous birth of Jesus...I knew it and I felt it...complete PEACE.

The kids played in the snow all morning and couldn’t wait for my family to arrive. They don’t get to see their cousins as often as they would like. It was such a fun night. After everybody left, we put out cookies and milk for Santa and headed to bed. Before going to bed, Ellie said to me “Mom, I have butterflies in my tummy”. I just gulped and said “me too, honey, me too”. Happy Birthday Jesus!
