My Aunt Mavis. I never knew her but knew the love my mom had for her. They were the closest of sisters. I know that Mavis' early and untimely death from cancer was devastating to the family.
I have a writing of my mom's that she read at her sister's funeral. This tells me so much about my aunt. An excerpt is on the page:

This brave and tender woman in every storm of life was oak and rock; but in the sunshine she was vine and flower. She was the friend of all souls. She climbed the heights and left all superstitions far below, while on her forehead fell the golden dawning of the grander day.
She loved the beautiful, and was with color, form, and music touched to tears. She sided with the weak, the poor and wronged, and lovingly gave alms.
She added to the sum of human joy; and were everyone to whom she did some loving service to bring a blossom to her grave, she would sleep tonight beneath a wilderness of flowers. ~Sybil
