journaling: We’ve spent some time in the nearly 8 years in this house putting in flowers, mostly perennials, but a few annuals go into the planter boxes on the deck. We’ve got daffodils and cherry trees and phlox and day lilies. But today, on Mother’s Day 2009, these particular flowers were blooming in our yard: petunia (Lemon Zest variety - I’ve never seen yellow petunias before and had to have them!), dianthus, lorapetalum (I think they look like exploding fireworks), wisteria (finally got a year when a late frost didn’t kill off all the buds), coreopsis (I just love the little tubular forms of the petals), and Knockout roses (the color is so intensely deep pink that the blossoms are almost hard to look at for too long). It brings me such joy to look outside and see these marvelous bursts of color.
