Most of what remains of Parke’s Castle is a 1600’s manor house built on the grounds of the previous stronghold of the O’Rourke clan. We were appalled to learn that Sir Brian O’Rourke was arrested by the British and hanged in London for treason. Treason? Against a nation not his own? Our boat ride took us across Lough Gill and around the “Lake Isle of Innisfree”, the title and subject of a famous 1893 poem by Nobel prize winner W.B. Yeats .
