This is for DH and I's European Vacation. I've decided to do "introduction" pages for each of the 10 cities we visited. The style will be the same for these pages. Other (more varied) pages will go into more detail between these pages.

Our tour of Italy began in Florence, the capital city of the Tuscany region. While visiting Italy we knew the city as the Italians call it - Firenze. We chose to visit Florence for its importance to the Italian Renaissance and its magnificent art and architecture. We were not disappointed.

We spent our 24 hour tour of Florence visiting the historic center. We walked and walked, maneuvering from one piece of historical architecture to another and investigating the many varied and interesting side streets. From the train station we walked to the cathedral Santa Maria del Fiore (The Duomo), the Baptistery and Giotto’s Campanile. To view the cathedral’s great art we visited the Museo Dell’Opera Del Duomo. The museum features art removed from the Duomo for safekeeping including Michelangelo’s Pieta. We walked to the Piazza della Signoria and Palazzo Vecchio. We crossed the Arno River on the Ponte Vecchio which features shops built on the bridge’s edges. We walked to the Palazzo Pitti but were too late to enter. We also walked by Church of Santa Maria Novella, Church of Santa Croce and San Lorenzo Market.

We took a walking break the second day and visited the Uffizi Gallery, one of the finest art museums in the world. We saw art by Botticelli, Titian, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Art and architecture abound in Florence.
