But, hey... timing is everything, isn't it? *wink* Thanks for the (timely!) template challenge, Bailey! Join us for another template 'mash-up' (oh, so funny considering this turn of events! LOL) on the DD blog! Just Thursday evening I took a bad tumble near the end of my run. After a major 'face-plant' on the sidewalk, one side of my nose was swollen and lopsided, my lip was split and swollen and that arm...? It was scary huge and black-and-blue! (And still is 3 days later! LOL) And every day a few more injuries have reared their ugly heads... let's just say I am NOT lookin' too good at the moment! And, wow... I feel every single one of those aches and pains! JOURNALING Every Thursday night, I drive to 24-Hour Fitness at South Coast for “Body Combat”. But this Thursday, class was cancelled. Instead of jumping on the treadmill, I drove home to go for a run. It was starting to get dark so I headed to the island because they have street lights on the board- walk! I parked on Onyx and headed out. As I finished, I decided to go a few blocks past Onyx (and my car!) so I’d have a 45-minute run. Which would prove to be my downfall. Literally. I headed up the middle of Coral and a car approached so I veered towards the walk. It looked like a curb cutout... but, sadly it wasn’t. And wham... I hit the pavement. And hard. A total face-plant. My first thought was: Are my teeth still there? I tasted blood. I’d cut my lip but my teeth were there. Then my nose started bleeding. And I saw my arm. More blood. And a huge baseball-sized bump. Did I break it? No, I could move it... whew. I used someone’s hose to rinse off the blood before wrapping my arm in a towel and speeding home. Rick was really sweet and spent the night icing my arm. I knew more things would hurt in the morning and they did. I’m just thankful I wasn’t injured worse! And, that was officially my last run in the dark! INJURY TALLY: Cut and bruised arm (hematoma), cracked or bruised rib and bruised rib muscles, bruised and swollen nose, bruised and swollen upper lip, split lip inside, major welt and bruise on right hip, bruise on left knee, minor scrapes... and as of Sunday night, my body just aches... sigh... OK... maybe not ever and maybe not the best technically, but of all the photos lately...? Yeah, this one rocks! Even though Derek doesn’t look so handsome (he was trying not to smile!) and Shannon’s doing the fun “selfie laugh”, I love, love, love this photo! After Shannon’s game vs. the Chapman alumni, she came home and spent the rest of the weekend. On Sunday, we went to dinner at Mi Casa, then hit America’s Cup for frozen yogurt. As we were leaving, one of them said “We should take a photo!” I was practically jumping up and down, I was so happy to hear that! A fun and current pic of my kids? How great is that? There's a fun celebration of all things birthday on the DD blog this week! Come join in the challenge! JOURNALING Oh, I’m “aged”, all right... but certainly NOT to “perfection”! But, hey... I still have a lot of years in me, so maybe I’ll hit “perfection” one of these days... hahaha! In the meantime, I‘ll take all the birthdays I can get... even though the number keeps getting bigger! But, like Jenny wrote in my birthday card: Age is simply the number of years the world has been enjoying you! I love that! And, heck.. you can’t stop birthdays from coming so why not revel in the fact that you’ve lived this long and why not feel good about it? I mean, of course, I’d rather be 30 again, but I’m not, so I’m going to focus on the positives about being “old” and just go from there. No, I don’t have the body of a 30-year-old (or even a 50-year-old... ha!), but I’m in pretty good shape. I can still comfortably run 3-4 miles... albeit not with blazing speed... and I can kick some serious “Body Combat” butt! I have wrinkles, sure, but I don’t look totally wrinkly. I’m not skinny, but I look good in most of my clothes (At least I think I do!) and I can still keep up with my young adult kids... except staying out until 3am! I love, love, love it! Check it out the SSL on the DD blog! So, this went in the opposite direction from where I started... it wound up big and bold (odd for me!) as opposed to soft and sweet like the Seema's layout. Geesh... but, I think you can still 'see' the basic composition here. I had to turn my layout onto it's side to accommodate my photos, but I still used three pics (perfect), framed them and layered them over another frame. I added accents in the 'empty' frame (Justin's initials and the cover to his latest album) and used a wordart brush for my title, adding a "20/20" JT logo to complete the title block. Thanks so much for the challenge, Connie, and thanks for the inspiration, Seema! And, yes, that is Justin Timberlake on the stage... captured by me with my Canon PowerShot SX20. Soooo much fun to see him perform... my second time in a year and Shannon's third! Yes, we are in love! You had a great time, but at first, you weren’t that thrilled about going... not that you don’t love the fair and not that going with Nico was a bad thing. It was just about having to avoid all those crazy, wild and delicious foods! Right up my alley! *wink* But, it was a bit of a challenge... Mollie only wanted us to use ONE letter! Hmmmmm... As I pondered the challenge, it came to me that the letter "D" has been a big part of my life, so to speak, and this layout was born! (And, it did occur to me as I worked on this that it's kinda silly, but, hey... what the heck! It was fun!) And, oh, wow... I don't know that I've ever had such a long, long list of credits! LOL But, it sure was fun going on the hunt for different "D"s... I found bazillions of great alphas in the store, on their own and inside kits! JOURNALING One could say that the letter “D” has been a part of my life since the day I was born! Actually, it was a few days after I was born. I was expected to be a boy named Bradley and it took a few days for Mom and Dad to come up with “DEBORAH” for me! Most people call me Debi, but Dad calls me “Dee” and Laurie calls me “DeDe”. In college, I decided to go through rush and join a sorority. Any idea what house I pledged? Yep... you guessed it: DELTA DELTA DELTA... the Greek letter “D”! Who saw saw that coming? *wink* And when our son was born, even though we didn’t conscious plan a “D” name, he’s DEREK. And, yeah, I often call him “D”. Or Bob, but that’s another story for another time! And, after years of scrapbooking with paper, I finally ‘WENT DIGITAL’ (another “D”!) and found my online home at DESIGNER DIGITALS... or “DD” as we like to say! So, yeah... I’m kind of partial to the letter “D”! And, yes... I do love to DOODLE! Apparently, not four! It’s a well-known fact in our house that Shannon loves shoes and has a closet full! The fact that she has four pairs of Converse All-Stars is not coincidental: If one pair is cute and comfortable, then more must be better! hahaha (Photo & Journaling 06.21.14) ALL SUPPLIES FROM DESIGNER DIGITALS KATIE PERTIET Wander Here LT (Template modified: I turned it on its side and eliminated some of the elements.) It's just been one of 'those' weeks so it's taken a few days to get it finished up! Thanks for a super challenge, Chrissy! JOURNALING From our first steps around the lake, we fell in love with Como. Every visit to Minnesota has included our now- traditional “first lap walking, second lap running, third (and final!) lap walking“. (Shannon always has to run back to me ‘cuz I’m a lot slower! Ha!) We never tire of looking at the beautiful houses surrounding the lake (we each have ”our” house picked out!) and we love the changing views of the lake... from our first snowy visit to this beautiful vista on our last evening in Minnesota. We both will really miss this. A lot. ‘Cuz, yeah... we love this place. I wanted to crop this photo to get a long, landscape shot of the girls, but I couldn't crop out the one friend that's standing so it's not a long, landscape crop! ha. At any rate, I simply added the logo (from the internet) and a splat or two of 'frozen yogurt' and some 'toppings' (beads!) and it's done! Thanks for the inspiration! Oh, I knew exactly the story I wanted to share but getting it down on 'paper' in a manner that I liked was another story! I had one complete do-over and I'm still not sure of the layout, but I decided that the story was the important thing and so, here it is! Carol, thank you for really making me think and step outta that proverbial 'box' of mine! I used Katie's fun freebies (brad/flair, "book definition" blendable and the book, which I recolored)... thanks, Katie! And, Cassie... my apologies for probably misreprensenting what the actual spine of a book looks like! LOL JOURNALING THE STORY I love to read and I used to read all the time... as a youth... as an adult... but somewhere along the way, a new story was written... “HOW I USED TO READ ALL THE TIME AND GET LOST IN THE STORIES”. A true story by Debi Boler documented May 2014. Chapter 1: I’VE ALWAYS LOVED TO READ. BIOGRAPHIES ARE A FAVORITE. Chapter 2: BUT LIFE GOT SO BUSY AND I PRACTICALLY STOPPED READING. Chapter 3: BUT THEN I GOT A NOOK (WITH A CUTE JONATHAN ADLER COVER!) AND STARTED READING AGAIN! Chapter 4: I LOVED GETTING LOST IN THE STORIES AGAIN! Chapter 5: THEN I DISCOVERED GAME APPS AND GOT LOST IN PLAYING GIN RUMMY AND CRIBBAGE AND SOLITAIRE Chapter 6: AND THEN ONE DAY, I DOWNLOADED A NEW BOOK AND... But, I really loved the idea of "five things"... mine just turned into a few more than five! LOL Aino's layout: »RIGHT NOW« Of course, I loved the neutral background, the labels and chalk brushes! I also went with a neutral background, but darkened it up. I kept my labels smaller (I had more than five things, remember?) and used Katie's "Chalked Flakes" and twist brushes. Shannon had so much fun and took so many photos over her winter break that she created a photobook (I was so happy!)... I used the cover of her book for this layout! Thanks for the inspiration, Aino!
