I find it terribly hard to scrap pictures of myself. This took a long time coming. This is of our first bird, Tweetie, that I truly loved and I think he really loved me, too. I still remember him like it was yesterday. And I still remember that dress. I think it was probably one of my very favorites. Loved the color and style. It was just one I loved to wear. Some faces I remember, others I don't as I was too young. But I realized how we change through the years, and even though we remember what people looked like at various stages of life, we still tend to remember them as we last saw it a few minutes ago or thirty years ago. I guess I might like to opt for the thirty years ago...but as I think about it, I am not totally sure about that, either! LOL I am thinking God wanted us to age as we grow, becoming even more beautiful just as a beautiful rose bud becomes even more beautiful as it matures. I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder!! But to me, there is something very beautiful in the face of an aged person. They have some where there are just a few grouped together and then they have areas of flocks of them. Flamingos are great social birds and love to be in flocks. In one area of east Africa, one million lesser flamingos gather together forming the largest flocks known among birds today. Wouldn't that be some sight?? We spend a lot of time watching them, doing their head-flagging...stretching their neck with head up high, turning their head quickly from side to side; doing wing salutes...showing off their contrasting colors with their tails cocked and neck and wings outstretched; twist preening...turning their necks clear around to reach all its feathers and our favorite...marching. When they march, the whole flock walks tightly together as one before stopping abruptly and changing direction. They will do this over and over!! It's so funny! We love them! It has taken ONE WEEK of emailing back and forth to get this LO done for him. Can you believe it? Between his definite style and not understanding scrapbooking, (that I have to use what I have in my stash) it has been a learning time for both of us!!! LOL But I got it done and he loves it!! Journaling:We were told to be sure to tip the camel guide only $1!! They will ask for more, but only give them a dollar. Just as told, when it came time for me to get off, the guide said, “$5”. I said, “$1”. This went back and forth for several minutes until the guide said, “Then I don’t let you down!”. I said, “Then I don’t give your camel back.” Guess who won??? Since I don't know how to post the old one here, I guess you will have to go to my gallery to see the original. Someone can be really nice, too, and pm me and let me know how to put a link to other LO's in these posts. I haven't a clue!! He said it was beautiful! This was in 1999. He just has gotten around to getting me some pics. Sort of hard to do for me since there is no journaling and I have no real feel of the experience!!! Good in a lot of aspects of life, not so much when mom is trying to scrap for him!!! LOL He really isn't that bad, actually, I just like to complain about him!! He does not want journaling. A plus and minus for me. It took me forever to start journaling on LO's and now I know that it is really important. But he says it interrupts his feelings when he sees the page. He just wants to let the pictures take him back and let his mind go there. OK. See what I mean? But to each his own. Easier on ole mom, though! He LIKES this one. Hates the picture. I thought I would scrap more with retirement, but... The whole point is, I think, that I realize I now have lots of time for the many things I loved to do but had had no time to do them!! Pulling out my stitching, especially my counted cross stitch, coupled with the gift of a Kindle from my son for Christmas, has rather edged scrapping to the side for right now. That, and the fact that when I did open Photoshop, I sat staring at the screen wondering how I ever scrapped in the first place. NO mojo. Nothing but nothing was inspiring me. We have all been there and it isn't a happy place. So finally, I sat down and started just moving things around and at least got a page done. I hope now I am back on track again. I was getting so frustrated. I love to scrap but the harder I tried the more frustrated I got with nothing appearing!! Settling into 2011 now, I hope I can get things to mesh together better. Taking a deep breath and trying to let it flow, I hope to be posting a lot more, again. We did mostly high end condo contract work so there was little to no walk in trade. That left us to pretty much do what we wanted. The previous day we had seen bees in the ceiling above the dropped ceiling. A bug man came out and dusted them out. No problem. Only problem was that they moved outside to the tree. They were swarming there till whomever it is they send out found a new home for them!! There were thousands of them. You can see the lump in the two pictures of the tree. Buck didn't want them there for fear they would come back into the building. With a great man idea, he decided he would take a big plastic bag, climb on the ladder, put the bag up from the bottom over the swarm and bing....pull the draw string!!! Then he would throw them away. (Right. But who am I to tell him not a good idea???) So he proceeded. The rest was history. The bees were far smarter and faster than he was and attacked him with vengeance. He dropped the bag as you see in the pictures, down off the ladder and ran for safety into the office. Only problem...they followed. It filled the office with bees...angry bees. No problem. He grabbed the jet vac and ran around sucking each and every one up!!! What he did with them in the vac I never asked. Some things are better off not knowing! We laughed so hard about this. It was so funny to be there and hear his screams and his frantic running around the store sucking up bees!! LOL Somehow, I just had to put this one in my Man Ideas portfolio!! The last of the Gloria pages!! They went to Cedar Point amusement park but only took one...well really two, photos...a family one. She took one and hubby took one. Well, I wanted to get them both on the page so I added her as the photographer!!! LOL By the way, I did hear from the marketing people at Cedar Point. The man I wrote was kind enough to personally call me twice, and give me permission to use pictures off the web site and wished me well that it turned out great! Many thanks to Cedar Point. They rock!! And they rock in more ways than that! The park is right on Lake Erie (litterally, right on the coastline) and has seventeen...that's right...17 roller coasters!!! Go to the web site and check them out. They have videos of riding on each one. What a virtual trip for me. I do not like roller coasters. The park has really changed since I was there last!! This, too, brought back a lot of memories for me as I was remembering when Jim had the youth group from our church there and a tornado hit. He was running through knee high water on the midway rounding up kids, all the while dodging hot charcoal embers from grills that had been overturned!! Very bad time. Thank God all the kids were safe, but unfortunately, there was some loss of life that day!! It has been so much fun doing this album for my friend. She doesn't want it in Shutterfly, but would rather have the pages printed off. So I need to get printing!!! She would like four copies so she can give each daughter one.
