Hope the weekend has been treating you well so far. As for me, the weather has been glorious the past couple of days--sunny and warm--and I've managed to find a bit of time to scrap this weekend, so I'm a happy camper! This page is my take on Cassie's latest Technique Tutorial Challenge, Fab Photo Clusters. That's me in the photo, standing next to a giNORmous turtle in the dinosaur exhibit at the American Natural History Museum in NYC. I am not crazy mad about this photo--too much glare from the windows behind me, too much reflection from the display case that houses the turtle, and my smile looks uncomfortably similar to that of the turtle! (Separated at birth? Hmmm... :) ) Cassie's tutorial gave me a chance to play with this photo and see if I could make something salvageable out of it. All right, DD'ers, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, so I should really go outside and enjoy this lovely weather. I should, but I think I'll stay inside and scrap! :) Ooohhh! We have wi-fi! I wonder if I can get a signal on my patio...pretty sure this is not what my mama meant when she'd tell me to go outside and play. :) Credits Lynn Grieveson Worn Page Edges No. 02 Cassie Jones How’d They Do That? I hated to do a whole album for them since we may not care later on. When I saw Cassie's challenge this seemed like the perfect way to remember them ALL! It is a little busy, but it was a busy day, LOL! We had always wanted to stop and take pictures and my daughter is going to make a video (her creative outlet). Glad we did this before she left home! And for the record, I can remember most of their names. It made it easier to track all the pelican layers! ----------------------------------------------------------- Tutorial Technique Challenge How’d They Do That? But once you stop to look at one, maybe two... then you will have to find them all. When we moved to Texas we soon began to see these pelicans from Pelican Path Project. The pelicans are about 6 - 8 ft. tall and each have a character of their own. When the kids were little we would drive through the area and they would count them. On this day we found many more than we expected. Sadly, some were destroyed during Hurricane Ike. It's been too long! Hope you are all doing well and that you're having a pleasant weekend. Me, I just got back from our community Easter Egg Hunt, and I thought to myself, "What better way to celebrate Easter and the arrival of spring than by posting a page about Halloween?" :) This page is my take on Cassie's most recent technique tutorial challenge. I love making stickers! They remind me of paper dolls; hence the fanciful page title. I always have difficulty restricting myself to using just one of Cassie's techniques, so there's more than just the sticker tutorial here. Cassie, I hope that's okay! I'm currently working on my Halloween photos from last year (so, so behind in my scrapping!). We host an annual pumpkin carving party, attending by a few friends and neighbors. The parts of this page that are not DD products are extractions of photos taken at that party. That's me, in my big, fuzzy slippers, sitting in my typical cross-legged pose working on one of the many jack o' lanterns we carve for our Halloween decorations. Journaling reads: "Pumpkin Carving Party! We held our annual neighborhood pumpkin carving party on Saturday, October 29th. The usual suspects were there, along with a guest appearance by our little cat, Scruffy." It's been a busy time at work--what else is new?--and I actually have to go into work for a few hours today. Sigh. Back to the salt mines. I hope to be able to pop back in to the gallery from time to time, but until then, just wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you and miss hanging out with you all. Happy Easter, to those of you celebrating it, and Happy Spring, everyone! It was a treat to work this tutorial again. Cassie packs them with information which you can use on all your pages. I choose to use the sticker extraction concept with a black sketch edge instead of a white sticker effect. The only bug I photographed is the one in the middle. After I extracted it I decided to duplicate the little jewel and then that tiny one jumped off the photo!! Cassie's directions for desaturation worked wonders for the background of this shot. I used Katie's new book pages and then over laid it with the chalk paper. THen I added the paint with a style to make it have dimension. Thanks for taking a look this way. This is the anniversary card I sent my hubby today….. I just had to try out the tutorial that everyone has been playing with - How’d They Do That? No. 02: Playing with Cardboard Journaling reads: Do you remember these children? So young and so in love. Everyone said we were too young and that we didn’t know each other well enough. And now here we are at 44 years and one day of marriage - still together and still in love. Back then, on that beautiful winter day, we never imagined was ahead for us. Our life together has taken us many places from the East Coast to Hawaii - with a few stops in between. We’ve worked through the challenges and shared the joys of raising three wonderful children. We’ve known the thrill of mountain top experiences and we’ve walked through times of calm and peace - when it felt that nothing could ever change us. We’ve walked through heartache, pain and grief to the point we felt we couldn’t take another step - and those times did change us. Now 44 years and one day after this photo was taken we are very different than we were back then. We’ve grown from 19 year old kids to mature adults who are wiser, stronger and whose lives are so intertwined I cannot imagine a day without you. For who you are and all the love we have shared - I thank you. You were then, you are now - and you always will be the only one I love. Credits: How’d They Do That? With a kick in the keester from Cassie's most recent tutorial technique challenge, today is that day! :) The story is this... In the Central Valley of northern California, where I grew up, the landscape is flat, flat, flat. Nothing to see for miles and miles but farm land. However, just north of Sacramento there is the most marvelous geologic feature--the Sutter Buttes. The Sutter Buttes are a collection of volcanic lava domes, remnants of a volcano that has been dormant for over a million years. Sacred to the Native Americans, rich with unique species of flora and fauna, the land there is mostly privately owned, but one can still ride bikes around them, and local conservation organizations lead hikes into them. My hometown was built in the shadow of the Buttes, and when I drive up there from the Bay Area, where I currently live, I know I'm getting close when I can see the Buttes rising up from the plain of the Central Valley. To this day, seeing them always makes me feel like I'm coming home. A word about the photo: Rice is one of the predominant crops where I was raised. All of the green in the foreground? That's a rice paddy. Journaling reads: "I have lived in the Bay Area for years; yet whenever I see them, they still feel like home." Oh, and thanks to Kelly (mugsbigsis), too. I liked the ribbon and branch she used on her page for this challenge, so I, er, appropriated them for my page! :) Credits Lynn Grieveson Just Saying Late Summer Mini-Kit Really Retro Labels Cassie Jones How’d They Do That?
