Default Question on getting published

I have a question for all those that have been published. When your work is published in a print magazine, I see scrappers putting an "out for publication" in its place in the gallery. Why is that, and should that also be done for digital publications?

I know with Creating Keepsakes they ask you to take down all pages from the internet if your layout is chosen. Not all publications make that request.
