Default e-zines?

I'm posting this in here because I figure this is the place to talk about submitting/getting published, etc.

What is the general opinion about e-zines and submitting to them? I imagine there are e-zines out there that are perhaps more respected in the industry - which ones might those be? Do you submit to e-zines?

Curious about this since I don't really know much about them. I'd really love to hear your opinion (even if you don't think yours is the "mainstream" opinion).

Thanks in advance for your time!

Submitting isn't something that I have personally gotten into doing but that has been my choice so not really any help in that aspect of where, etc.

My thinking is that if you are wanting to get into being published, you are likely doing it because you want to showcase your creations to a wider audience. So I would think you would be best off to get exposure in a variety of types of publications from the small to the bigger ones. Printed or ezines. The more avenues you approach and are open to, the wider your potential audience and greater a following you will create potentially opening more opportunities to be published in the larger ones. As well, I haven't met a designer yet who isn't happy to get exposure of their product anywhere that may reach new customers & by being published, you are getting them that exposure as well.

I don't buy paper magazines because of my personal environmental beliefs so being published in them isn't something that I am going to see. However, if you are published in some ezines or post your work to galleries, I am more likely to find you and follow you if I like your work - talking abstract here as I already follow you Kathleen

So if you would read it and like it, I would say go for it, give it a go. What do you have to lose?

Thanks Heather, that is sweet. And I appreciate your time in posting that.

I guess I should specify my reasons - that might help. I'm interested in getting back into the industry professionally (I used to have a great full-time job and lost it when the company shut down last year). Companies really like knowing that you can get their products published. So I guess what I'm wondering is how valuable e-zine publications are percieved and if there are e-zines that are generally more respected in the industry. It really is a time-consuming process to submit at all, so I want to make sure I spend my time wisely.
